WBA lightweight champion, Miguel “Aguacerito” Acosta, met the national requirement of pre-fight weigh-in, which took place in Caracas. He is a month away from the first defense of the world title, on February 26 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas against Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios. Under the supervision of a member from the National Boxing Commission, Nicolás Hidalgo, and accompanied by the media, and their coaches Orangel “Memin” Ramos and Oscar Acosta, “Aguacerito” stepped on the scale and scored exactly 66 kilos (145.5 pounds).

He said there were no complications during training camp, and he is ready to meet the rest of his training schedule, which includes excercises dealing with speed, and at least three more days of sparring before traveling to the United States. Acosta announced that he has no fear about the fight, “but I respect my opponent. I have no problem with having the public on his side, because I’m used to that. But in the ring that night, before the public, it will only be me and Rios.” His manager Oscar Acosta added: “We are confident that it will be a great fight, we are clear on the conditions of our fighter, and we are also clear that Rios is a tough guy, as all Mexicans are.”
