Tshifhiwa Munyai was forced to get naked ahead of his fight with Scott Quigg after failing to make the weight for their world title bout.

The South African, who is a late replacement for mandatory challenger Nehomar Cermeno, tipped the scales at 5oz over the 8st 10lb limit and was given time to meet super bantamweight conditions.

Munyai returned two hours later and, after removing his underwear, made the weight for Saturday night’s fight in Manchester.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who helped hold a towel in front of Munyai as he was weighed in, will have been relieved to see Quigg’s title defence still in place after Cermeno was forced to pull out because of visa issues.

Munyai, 28, took the fight at just a week’s notice but will now headline this weekend’s event at the Phones 4U Arena.

Quigg, who is looking to extend his unbeaten record to 30 fights, insists that the change of opponent will not affect him.
He said: ‘All the preparation was already done when the change of opponent happened.

‘It isn’t ideal but you have to be able to adapt and deal with it. I am in the best place I can be and my best beats anybody else’s best on the night.

‘I remember watching Munyai when he came over and beat Martin Power and Lee Haskins in Commonwealth title fights. But I am not Martin Power or Lee Haskins, I am a different level to them.
