The World Boxing Association KO Drugs 30th edition will take place on October 24, 2014 in Barranquilla, Colombia and will have among his special guests former WBA flyweight 112 lbs champion, the Panamanian Hilario Zapata and the Colombian Fidel Bassa.
The will both be sharing their experiences in and out the sport with young Colombians.
The Panamanian Zapata was born on August 19, 1958 in Panama City. He made his debut in the professional boxing in 1977, the following year he became FEDELATIN light flyweight champion.
In 1980, he fought for the WBC version for the first time. In 1985 he won the WBA flyweight gold and black belt. He was the King until 1987, making six defenses.
He was active until 1993 when he hung his gloves with a record of 43-10.
On his part, Bassa was born on December 18, 1962 in Magdalena, Colombia. He had a professional record of 22-1-1, 15 KO. He was the flyweight champion from 1987 to 1989.
Bassa was Zapata’s executioner. He dethroned him on February 13, 1987 at the Barranquilla Country Club, Colombia.
The met again later for their rematch in the “Gimnasio Nuevo Panama”, in Panamá. The fight ended a Draw.
