Friday night at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York, WBA-NABA USA super welterweight champion Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan (22-0-1, 7 KOs) successfully defended his title by decisioning hometown favorite Kenny Abril (14-8-1, 7 KOs).
After 10 rounds of action, the decision went to the judges. Don Ackerman scored it 97-93, Glenn Feldman had it 97-93, and Steve Weisfeld saw it 96-94, all in favor of Hogan.
The Pod Index judges scoring off-site had it 80-72 twice and 80-71.
In the co-main event, Tony “Lightning” Luis (20-3, 7 KOs), from Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, ranked #14 by the WBA, outpointed Edward Valdez (13-11-2, 3 KOs), from New York by way of Moca, Dominican Republic. Don Ackerman and Steve Weisfeld both had it 80-72, while Eric Marlinski had it a little closer at 79-73 after eight rounds.
