Australian Cameron Hammond successfully defended his WBA Oceania welterweight title by stopping fellow Aussie Sedat Tasci in the fifth at Crossing Theatre, Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia, on Saturday, July 25.

Twenty-five-years-old and a three-year pro (13-0, 7 KOs), the undefeated “Hammer” won the vacant title in July 2014 by decisioning Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco. Prior to his win by TKO over Tasci, he most recently defended his title in May, stopping Jese Ravudi by fourth-round KO. Hammond is ranked #13 by the WBA.

Thirty-year-old Tasci is an eight-year ring vet (8-2-4, 3 KOs) who won the vacant Australia-New South Wales State lightweight title by decisioning Jerry Spanidis in February 2009, but failed in his bid for the vacant Australian lightweight title, losing to Jason Crowe by technical decision in May 2009. The doctor stopped the contest in the fifth because of cuts suffered by Crowe due to an accidental headbutt, and the fight went to the cards. Thus far, only Hammond has stopped Tasci, who last won in November 2014, decisioning Rickson Yamo.

“I’m happy with my performance,” said Hammond after the fight. “It is my third stoppage win in a row and I’m feeling really strong at welterweight. I knew when I hit him with my right hand it was pretty much over. He called me ‘a boy’ in the lead up to this fight, but I believe I showed him tonight that I’m for real.”
