On Friday, August 14, at Gimnasio Municipal in Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina, interim WBA World female featherweight champion Dahiana Santana (34-6, 14 KOs), from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, defends her title against undefeated Anahi Esther Sanchez (10-0, 4 KOs), aka La Indiecita, from Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds.
Thirty-year-old Santana turned pro in 2002 at the age of 17. In 2010 she won the vacant Dominican Republic female featherweight title, and the following year won the IBF World female featherweight title.
In her last fight, on June 28, 2014, in Santo Domingo, Santana decisioned Francia Elena Bravo (16-3-2 coming in) to win the interim WBA World female featherweight title.
Friday’s fight in Buenos Aires will be her first defense of the crown.
Twenty-four-year-old Sanchez turned pro two years ago and has won all 10 of her fights. She is young, she is hungry, and the champion is defending her title in Sanchez’s backyard.
The referee for the fight is Romina Arroyo. The three judges are David Singh and Octavio Rodriguez from Panama and Danilo Dongo from Peru.
The supervisor is Jose Emilio Graglia from Argentina.
If Santana successfully defends her title Friday night, a fight with WBA World female featherweight champion Edith Soledad Matthysse, who is coming off a stunning victory over former WBC World featherweight Jelena Mrdjenovich, is a natural.
Santana vs. Sanchez will be televised live on TyCSports starting at 10 PM. The fight can be seen online at http://www.tycsportsplay.com/ar.
