Moises Flores will defend his interim WBA World super bantamweight title over a scheduled 12 rounds against Luis Emanuel Cusolito at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, this Tuesday, September 22.
The 28-year-old champ — a seven-year pro who fights out of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico (23-0, 16 KOs, 1 NC) — won the title by beating via split decision tiny (5’1½”) but tough Oscar Escandon in April. The only “blemish” on Flores’ record is his November 2012 bout with Mario Munoz, declared a no contest as the result of an accidental headbutt that opened a bad cut on Munoz’s left eyelid. “Chucky” is ranked #1 by the WBA.
Twenty-seven-year-old Cusolito is a five-year ring vet who fights out of Zarate, Buenos Aires, Argentina (21-1, 19 KOs). “La Ardilla” last fought in March, stopping Sergio Carlos Santillan by second-round TKO. His sole loss came in December 2012, stopped via fifth-round TKO by Maximiliano Luis Marquez when trying for the vacant WBA Fedebol super bantamweight title. Cusolito is ranked #8 by the WBA.
While Flores has fought three times outside his native Mexico (all in the U.S.), only one of Cusolito’s bouts has taken place in a country other than Argentina (he stopped Rodrigo Mendoza by second-round TKO in Mexico in October 2012), the upcoming bout marking his U.S. debut.
