On May 9 at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany, twenty-eight-year-old Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10 KOs), from Serpukhov, Russia, won the WBA World super middleweight title via 12-round split decision over 36-year-old Felix Sturm, from Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
The new champion defended his title for the first time two weeks ago against 26-year-old Frank Buglioni, easily winning a unanimous decision over the tough Londoner.
In light of the split decision, the WBA mandated a rematch between Chudinov and Sturm.
“We have started discussions with Sturm’s team regarding the rematch which is tentatively scheduled for December 5 in Germany,” said Chudinov’s promoter, Vladimir Hrunov. “If Fedor is successful against Felix, then we will look to have another fight in England, maybe against George Groves.”
