Wednesday afternoon at City Hall Ground in Chonburi Thailand, interim WBA World minimumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart (12-0. 6 KOs), from Surin, Thailand, successfully defended his title by decisioning WBA-NABA minimumweight champion Carlos Buitrago (28-2-1, 16 KOs), from Managua, Nicaragua, in the second of their two fights.
The final scores were 117-111 twice and 119-109.
Fighting out of the blue corner in white trunks with red and yellow trim, Freshmart lost the opening stanza before finding the groove that carried him through the middle rounds.
Buitrago, fighting out of the red corner in blue and white trunks, rallied late, but he was way behind on the scorecards at the final bell.
The fight may have been somewhat closer than the scorecards suggest. But Buitrago, for whom winning has become second nature, has now won only one of his last four fights, three of them in Thailand and one in Mexico.
He might need to return to Nicaragua to return to his winning ways.
For Knockout CP Freshmart, by contrast, it looks like the sky is the limit.
