Saturday night at Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO welterweight champion Cecilia “The First Lady of Boxing” Braekhus (28-0, 7 KOs), from Bergen, Norway, by way of Cartagena, Colombia, retained her titles by decisioning Chris “El Bombón Asesino” Namus (21-4, 8 KOs), from Montevideo, Uruguay, after 10 one-sided rounds.
Braekhus won the vacant WBA World welterweight title in 2009 by defeating Vinni Skovgaard and has successfully defended her title 15 times. She has been inactive for over a year due to an injury, but Braekhus is back and in a big way.
It took Braekhus a couple rounds to find her rhythm, but once she found it she didn’t miss a beat. She beat Namus to the punch throughout the fight. She was, as the three 100-90 scores suggest, totally dominant Saturday night.
