Jarkko Putkonen and Robbie Davies Jr. will come to blows at the Devonshire House Hotel in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, this Saturday, the 5th. At stake, the vacant WBA Continental super lightweight title.

Thirty-one-year-old Putkonen, a Finn, is a five-year pro (12-1, 6 KOs) who suffered his only defeat last October, failing in his quest for the WBO Inter-Continental super lightweight title by losing to Jack Catterall via unanimous decision. He most recently won this past August, beating Nourdeen Toure by split decision.

Although born in Liverpool, his 26-year-old opponent has fought out of Kirkby, Merseyside, since 2013 (11-0, 8 KOs). Undefeated, Davies last fought this past December, stopping Ryan Hardy by second-round TKO. Davies’ father, described by The Glasgow Herald as “the most dangerous puncher in British amateur boxing for many years,” participated in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and won the ABA middleweight title in 1977. He turned pro that year, fighting at super welterweight until 1980 (11-4, 10 KOs).
