Saturday night at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa, WBA Super World minimumweight champion Hekkie Budler (29-2, 9 KOs), the iron-jawed spark plug from Johannesburg, lost his title on the scorecards to Byron Rojas (17-2-3, 8 KOs), the hungry underdog from Matagalpa, Nicaragua.
All three judges saw it 115-113.
Formerly ranked #8 by the WBA, unknown and unheralded Byron Rojas is the new WBA Super World minimumweight champion.
Budler had five successful defenses of the title. He had not lost a fight in five years.
But tonight in South Africa, Hekki Budler got bettered.
Byron Rojas, the Nicaraguan, hit harder and more often.
