Petr Petrov and Marvin Quintero will face off over a scheduled 10 rounds at Toshiba Plaza in Las Vegas this Friday, May 6. At stake, Petrov’s WBA-NABA and Quintero’s NABF lightweight titles.

Born in Russia, but fighting out of Spain, 33-year-old Petrov is a 16-year pro (36-4-2, 17 KOs) who won the then-vacant title, as well as the interim WBO NABO lightweight title, in May 2014 by stopping Fernando Carcamo via eighth-round TKO. He successfully defended both straps last April, defeating Gamaliel Diaz by unanimous decision. Fourth-ranked by the WBA, iron-chinned “Zar” has only been stopped once, knocked out in the fourth by Marcos Maidana in September 2011, thus losing in his quest for the WBA World super lightweight title.

Twenty-nine-year-old Quintero, a Mexican, is a 12-year ring vet (28-6, 24 KOs) who won the then-vacant title last September by knocking out Jeffrey Fontanez in the fifth. “Cachorro,” a southpaw, is as glass-jawed as he is heavy-handed, having lost five of six by way of stoppage.

“He is a good boxer,” said Petrov about Quintero. “He is a southpaw who has a lot of experience. He is a slick fighter, but I am experienced as well, and I am ready for anything.”
