Friday night at Coliseo Municipal in Caucasia, Colombia, WBA World interim female bantamweight champion Dayana “El Diamante” Cordero (15-5-2, 11 KOs), fighting out of Panama City, Panama, successfully defended her title by knocking out Maribel “Pantera” Ramirez (9-9-2, 3 KOs), from Mexico City, Mexico, in the seventh round of a scheduled 10-round fight.

Cordero brought the fight to her opponent at the opening bell. The champion dropped Ramirez in rounds one and three. Keeping to the center of the ring and maintaining her composure, “El Diamante” had her way with her opponent, who was fighting back but mostly hitting air.

Cordero drew first blood in the fifth round from a cut on Ramirez’s nose, but the tough Mexican kept coming.

A three-punch combination in the seventh round put the challenger down a final time.

The referee Melva Santos waved it off.

It was a stunning victory for the 20-year-old interim champion.

“My corner told me, ‘You can end the fight when you want,’” said Cordero at the end of the fight. “‘Do what you came to do.’

“Now I need to continue preparing because there are tougher rivals at my level.”
