This month marks the first anniversary of Dr. Gilberto Mendoza’s, President Emeritus of the World Boxing Association, passing away. In order to commemorate the memory of whom in life was one of the most important and respectable leaders of this discipline in the world, a series of activities will be carried out both in his native Venezuela and in Panama, where the organism has been established during years.
As boxing was the epicenter of the life of Dr. Mendoza, nothing is more appropriate to honor his memory than sports. For that reason, amateur and professional combats will be held in 20 states of Venezuela from March 8th to 10th, while on the 11th, date of death of Dr. Mendoza, a professional program will be held at the “Yesterday” Recreation Center, in Turmero, and will be attended by great Venezuelan figures. It will be preceded by a public Mass in honor of the President Emeritus of the WBA.
In addition, we will also pay tribute to Dr. Mendoza with a mass at the San Francisco de Asis Church, in Panama City, on March 14th.
Dr. Mendoza passed away last year in Venezuela after a tough battle with cancer. The legacy he left in boxing is indelible and made him one of the most influential characters in the sport.
