March is the month of the World Boxing Association, because boxing’s oldest governing body will sanction three major battles.
The first of them is the bout between the Americans Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, which will be held this weekend in the Big Apple with the WBA Welterweight Championship at stake. Both are considered the best welterweights at the moment and will show who is superior in one of the most anticipated bouts of the year.
Likewise, we will have the battle of the Middleweights. Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin and American Daniel Jacobs will fight for the 160-pound WBA Super Championship on March 18th in New York. This contest was ordered by the WBA Championships Committee and also attracts the attention of the public, considering “Miracle Man” a worthy rival of “GGG”.
Also, we will have the second version of the fight between the Venezuelan Jorge Linares and the British Anthony Crolla to be held on the 25th this month in Manchester, England, for the WBA Lightweight title. The two fighters measured strength last year in a match that left the fans satisfied and in which the “Golden Boy“ dethroned the “Million Dolar”.
This important month for the WBA is completed by the 105-pound battle won by Thai Thammanon Niyomtrong on March 1st against Japanese Go Odaia, and the bout between Ecuadorian Jack Culcay and American Demitrius Andrade for the Super Welterweight Title next March 11th, which marks the one-year anniversary of the passing away of Dr. Gilberto Mendoza, President Emeritus of the World Boxing Association.
