American Andre Ward (31-0, 15KO) and Russian Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KO) started this April 10th in New York, the press tour to promote their rematch in June, 2017, when they will fight for the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship.
Ward and Kovalev have already warmed up the atmosphere prior to their bout through social media, and their statements at the press conference have not lowered the tone.
“The reality is that he’s got to see me on June 17th, it’s not going to be any different. He got what he asked for”, Ward said, while Kovalev said: “This rematch will square things away and we’ll see who the best fighter is”.
Their first fight was close. Ward went to the canvas in the second round. However, he managed to recover from the fall to use his good boxing against the Russian puncher. In this way, the judges gave him the victory by unanimous decision. The three of them voted: 114-113 in favor of “SOG”.
The press tour to promote this bout has two more stops already confirmed: the first one on April 11th in Oakland, and the second one on the 12th in Los Angeles.
