The president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, will visit Managua, Nicaragua, to be present this July 1st at the commemoration of the eight years of the passing of Alexis Argüello.
The leader of the most important boxing organization in the world will arrive on Friday in Managua and on Saturday he will be part of the event to be held in honor of one of the greatest boxing legends in the world.
Argüello stood out for his great fights in the ring, which were full of action and demonstrated the boxer’s pride. He was always a great ally of the WBA by conquering several belts of the organization as an active athlete, and he also worked hand in hand with the WBA after his retirement from boxing.
The WBA always recognized Argüello’s work as a leader. His political career was aimed at helping those less fortunate and was an example for the youth of his country.
Argüello was the main mentor of Román “Chocolatito” González, since he helped him a lot in his first steps and served as a bridge between the boxer and Mendoza, who supported the current star’s career and helped him to become the idol he is today.
The Nicaraguan people have always been known for their struggle and for their example of overcoming hardships. The spirit of the nation is reflected in what Argüello was and his contribution to the world of boxing.
