The World Boxing Association (WBA) is synonym of great battles, it has been that way throughout 2017 and August will be no exception, since in the eighth month of the year, American Terrence Crawford and Namibian Julius Indongo will engage in a battle that gathers the interest of everyone. Both gladiators will meet in the ring on the 19th and will fight for the Super Lightweight title of the WBA, at the same time with the IBF, WBO and WBC belts.
Crawford is currently the best man in the 140 lbs category. He holds the crowns of the WBO as well as the WBC. He got the first belt in the category on April 18, 2015 after defeating Thomas Dulorme by TKO in the second round. Since then, he has had 4 title defenses and in all four occasions the fight has ended before the final bell.
On Idondgo’s side, he got his first championship of the Super Lightweights in December 2016, when he KO’d Eduard Troyanovsky in the first round. Later, in April 2017 he dethroned British Ricky Burns by unanimous decision to achieve the WBA belt and add it to that of the IBF.
Now both fighters seek the ultimate glory: Holding the 4 world titles of the most important entities in boxing, and thus emulate the only gladiator to ever achieve such a feat: Bernard Hopkins, who did it in 2004 when he beat Oscar De La Hoya while successfully defending all the titles on that battle.
