Laura Linda Lecca Lecca (13-2-2, 3 KOs), retained her World Boxing Association Super Flyweight Title for the first time, after beating Mexican Karina Fernández by unanimous decision, which was a historic fact for her country, as it was the first time in her career to fight in her homeland.
The fight was very emotional, not only for seeing Lecca fighting for a world title, but also for the events that occurred months before in Trujillo, when a big part of the place was flooded, including Coliseo Gran Chimú, where the fight was held.
The first round was a little slow, both boxers were trying decipher the other. Lecca knew that Fernández was the one who should risk, so she waited and tried to tire her, to attack with force after. Thus, the bout was very even until the seventh round, when the Peruvian changed the jabs for a right punch to the face. In the eighth round, Lecca showed her dodging ability. Thus the fight went on until the last round.
In the end, the three judges gave Lecca the victory by unanimous decision: 96-94 and double 97-93. The local boxer recognized the strength of her rival and showed her satisfaction for having achieved the victory.
