Khalid Yafai (22-0, 14KO’s) is set to defend his WBA Super Flyweight Championship against Sho Ishida (24-0, 13KO’s). The two men took to the scales today, with Yafai weighing in at 114,9 lbs and challenger Ishida weighing in at 114.5 lbs.
The fight will take place this Saturday, October 28th, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on the undercard of Anthony Joshua defending his WBA Heavyweight Super Championship against Carlos Takam. It will be broadcast live on Sky Box Office, the SkyGo app, and TalkTalk TV customers can order the fight for £19.95.
This will be Yafai’s second defense of the title after coming off of a dominating unanimous decision victory over Suguru Muranaka where Yafai knocked his opponent down but had to dig deep and show good stamina to stay on top of the rugged Muranaka.
Yafai won the title in December of 2016 when he beat Luis Concepcion at Manchester Arena via unanimous decision in a fight where he dominated the veteran El Nica from opening to closing bell with his superior size and strength.
Sho Ishida, on the other hand, is challenging for his first world title and is a relative unknown outside of Japan since he has not fought outside his native country or on a major network yet.
The stage is set for the fight and fans are pumped and ready to pack the Principality Stadium tomorrow night in Cardiff for what figures to be an excellent fight card and one for the history books with three separate WBA title bouts.
