Artem Dalakian dominated Brian Viloria from start to finish to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) Flyweight Championship. The Ukrainian pulled all his tools to prevail at The Forum in Inglewood, California, and get the coveted title by a unanimous decision of 118-109 on all three cards of the judges.
Dalakian fought outside of his natal Ukraine for the first time in his career and did it in a very complicated place like California, against a veteran rival like the Hawaiian Viloria. However, he managed it very well and maintained control of his rival throughout the fight to take a comfortable victory.
It was a complicated battle because of the boxers’ styles, which included a cut caused by an elbow to Viloria and a deduction of points for Dalakian due to inconveniences with the clinches. Despite that, Dalakian demonstrated superiority and a better use of his boxing throughout the fight, which made him earn his new belt.
The new champion now has a record of 16 wins, no losses and 11 knockouts, while Viloria left a record of 38 wins, 6 losses and 23 knockouts.
