Silvia Torres (18-0-1, 6KO’s) and Jessica Nery Plata (21-2, 3KO’s) took to the scales today in anticipation of Torres defending her World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim World Female Light Flyweight Title tomorrow.
Torres weighed in at 104 lbs and Plata weighed in at 106.2 lbs. The fight will take place at Como Sindicato de Trabajadores IMSS in Tlalpan, Mexico, and be broadcast on beIN Sports in the United States.
Torres won the interim title this last December via unanimous decision over Brenda Flores at the same venue in Tlalpan for her first defense this Saturday. Torres is undefeated but fighting a very worthy challenger in Plata, who has more experience than anyone she has ever faced.
The two fighters have fought previously in the amateurs, with Plata saying that she believes this is going to be the most exciting fight of her career.
“We have faced four times before but that was when we were amateurs. They were always close fights, but from that time to the present we have changed a lot,” said Plata. She added, “I was previously a youth world champion and now she is the WBA world champion, so I think this is going to be the best fight of all”.
All eyes are on this fight seeing as how Yesica Bopp, the longtime WBA World Female Light Flyweight Title holder, just won her title defense via sixth round stoppage this last Friday.
