Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), completed a small European tour that took him to visit two countries; Romania and Bulgaria, where he stayed from July 13th to 17th. Now he is getting ready for a new stop: Moscow, Russia.
Mendoza will arrive in the city this Thursday from Sofia, Bulgaria, to witness the fight for the WBA Cruiserweight World Title and the final of the World Boxing Super Series between Gassiev and Usyk on Saturday, July 21st.
His first stop was in Bucharest, where he held a productive meeting with Vasile Citea, the president of the Romanian Boxing Federation. Both leaders talked about the new projects that the WBA will carry out in amateur pugilism, where there were plans announced last week with a letter signed by the great champion Wladimir Klitschko.
After Mendoza explained to Citea the intentions of the WBA to further develop the sport, they agreed to make a second visit to carry out a seminar of judges and referees.
Later, Mendoza visited Sofia, Bulgaria, where he met Mariana Borissova, director of WBA-Europe, as she signed a new work agreement with the intention of continuing the great work they carry out on the old continent.
Undoubtedly, Borissova has done an outstanding job in Europe, where quality matches are constantly being held for regional titles, which increases the level of pugilism in the region and provides new global opportunities for athletes.
Mendoza, after this small tour, will return to Colombia and will soon announce new destinations to travel to while continuing to talk about the WBA Pro-AM.
