The Kazakh Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and the Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez completed public training in Los Angeles, California, with a view to the rematch mega fight they will hold on September 15th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The spirits of both teams are at the peak and the physical conditions that both boxers showed us assure a great fight for the Super World Middleweight Championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
Both Alvarez and Golovkin interacted with their fans, signed autographs and posed for photographs during the event.
The venue for the exhibition was the Banco de California Stadium, a sports venue that was crowded with hundreds of followers of Golovkin and Canelo.
The first to appear before the public was “GGG”, who climbed into the ring escorted by his coach Abel Sanchez, in charge of directing the pad work that made the current champion.
The action of the Kazakh was not so prolonged, but in the time he was on the mat he showed a body in full physical peak form, worthy of a fight of this magnitude.
After the training, he granted an interview and this is what Golovkin said: “Canelo, he is not a champion, he is a liar who has no respect for the sport of boxing and his fans, I do not think of ‘Canelo’ when I train. I’m not worried about him, I just worry about working in the camp and doing my job in the ring on September 15th.”
“In the last fight I did not feel any real power from Alvarez. He is not the hardest puncher I have fought with, but he is fast, skillful, and a very good opponent,” said ‘GGG’.
“It would be good if he came to fight this time, I do not believe what he talks about looking for the knockout, because that was what he said in the first fight and he did not. I will definitely be more aggressive this time,” added the champion.
On the cancellation last May, he said: “It was a good life experience, but it was not a good experience for boxing. I think that new judges and a new referee would be better for boxing and sports.
The second to make his masterful appearance was the pride of Jalisco, Saul Alvarez, in the company of Eddy and Chepo Reynoso, responsible for the success of the boxer from Guadalajara.
Like his rival, Alvarez’s presentation was not so extensive, but very explosive while it lasted. The Aztec did some shadowboxing while also hitting the pads and demonstrating the power of his hands while confirming that his leg is fully recovered.
When asked about what awaits us in this rematch, ‘Canelo’ said: “This fight is personal for everything that has been said, and it will be difficult to recover the respect we once had.”
“I know I can hurt him. I hurt him in the first fight, and I’ll hurt him even more in the second fight. My objective is the knockout and I will look for it in the first round”, added ‘Canelo’.
“There is no Mexican style. There have been many fighters from Mexico with different styles. My style is mine. I’m Mexican and that’s the important thing. Maybe Golovkin uses ‘Mexican Style’ to gain followers, but he’s a hypocrite. If something happened in Mexico, he would not be there to support them,” he concluded.
After this day in Los Ángeles, Alvarez and Golovkin will meet again in three weeks for this fight, which promises to hype the boxing world and write a new chapter in the sport of flat noses and cauliflower ears.
