The World Boxing Association (WBA) designated Matchroom Boxing as the Promoter of the Year thanks to the contribution that the British company made to boxing during this last year. The company, led by Eddie Hearn, promoted big fights during this calendar year and expanded in an incredible way in favor of the sport.

The WBA has viewed with great pleasure how Matchroom has been climbing over the years. First, making a lot of noise in England and throughout the UK with local fighters, then, taking several international stars to their soil to measure themselves in championship fights and, lastly, filling stadiums with idols like Anthony Joshua, Super Heavyweight Champion WBA.

2018 has been a special year for Matchroom. Hearn and Matchroom managed to sign a historic contract with the DAZN streaming network, which aims to expand their reach to American and Canadian soil, in addition to the rest of the world. Matchroom also got the representation of American figures such as Danny Jacobs, while he sheltered other figures such as Amir Khan.

These achievements combined with their plan to make women’s boxing visible and to lead an excellent female boxer like WBA champion Katie Taylor to fight in big fights in the United States, have also been important decisions made by Matchroom. The WBA is delighted to work hand in hand with Hearn and congratulates the entire Matchroom team for the great goals achieved during 2018.
