Carl Frampton was recognized with an honorary doctorate at Queen’s University, in his native Belfast, because of his contribution to the sport.
The former Super Champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) participated in a ceremony in which 14 people were recognized with degrees in Northern Ireland, and his was very special for the achievements he has had in the world pugilism.
“I am delighted to accept this honorary degree from Queen’s University in my hometown of Belfast. This award means a lot to me, and I am pleased to be here to share this day with so many other students who graduate from the University,” said the fighter during the ceremony.
Frampton has made history as he is one of the very few Irish boxers in getting championships in two different weight categories and the first in Northern Ireland to achieve such a feat.
The WBA congratulates Frampton for his recognition and sends its best wishes for his return to the ring during the next month of August.
