Michel Soro won the Gold Super Welterweight Title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) with a technical knockout over the Frenchman Anderson Prestot. At the Palace of Sports, in Marseille, Soro stopped Prestot in the fifth round to secure the belt.
Soro is at the top of the WBA rankings and has won the right to fight for the world championship, but an injury to his rival Magomed Kurvanov prevented such a fight from taking place.
Prestot came into the fight with great desire to surprise Soro, but fell short in his attempt. Despite his good record of 23-1, Prestot could not overcome the strength of the Ivory Coast native with French nationality.
The next objective of the 31-year-old fighter is to become world champion in the weight class once again and will await his opportunity to fight for the world title patiently in the short term.
With the win, Soro maintains a record of 34 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 23 knockouts.
