Celestino “Pelenchin” Caballero has had a career of ups and downs. Outside problems have confronted him with justice, which represents a dark side of his story, in contrast to everything he achieved as a boxer. However, the Panamanian has never hidden and a clear example of that is the book he will present this Saturday, August 17th, in his native country in which he narrates all his experiences in a crude way and seeks to encourage others to achieve their dreams.
“It feels comfortable to be able to express how one comes from nowhere to obtain a dream and also to be able to capture the mistakes that one commits as a human being. The satisfaction is that this remains and that people can meet athletes from before they were athletes,” said the former super bantamweight world champion from Panama.
The book, which will be presented in the framework of the International Book Fair 2019, has the purpose of making known everything the boxer had to go through but also wants to deliver a message to the readers.
“The teaching is that as human beings we all make mistakes and we want others not to make them. With everything that happens in life, one must be properly maintained. We are not 100% correct but we have to avoid falling into crimes or things like that,” Caballero continued.
“A friend from many years ago told me to write the book and tell the things of the past and the present. We called some writers and started doing this, a project that lasted a year,” explained Pelenchin about how the book was devised.
“My advice to boxers is that they try hard, that they don’t give up. That they learn to choose their friendships and to take care of what they generate, that they learn to invest and take care of what they have obtained with so much effort,” reflected the Panamanian boxing icon.
Caballero also thanked the WBA for supporting his career and highlighted the work he did along with the agency throughout his career as a fighter, and even after retirement.
