Dennis Contreras won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro Featherweight title by defeating Belmar Preciado by technical knockout in five rounds during his Friday night bout at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Mexican boxer had a complicated challenge against the Colombian fighter from the very beginning. Contreras showed how much he wanted the fight by attacking throughout most of it and taking the punches from Preciado, who was doing a good job walking the ring and hitting Contreras’ soft spots hard.

However, the Mexican’s insistence paid off by diminishing Preciado’s condition and gradually hurting him, until in the fifth round he managed to connect a strong hook on the ropes and knock down the South American boxer. Preciado barely got up and the referee allowed him to continue but his lack of response to Conteras’ attack forced the third man on the ring to stop the actions.

Contreras now has a record of 22 wins, 10 losses, 1 draw and 20 KOs, while Preciado has improved his record to 20 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 13 KOs.
