Brandon Figueroa on Damien Vazquez: "The body shots are gonna break him down"

Brandon Figueroa is just over a week away from returning to the ropes at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut to defend his World Boxing Association Super Bantamweight belt against Damien Vazquez.

The American fighter of Mexican descent will be defending his crown for the third time and spoke with the promotions company Premier Boxing Champions in a 12-question interview that provided good and interesting statements about what he expects from his next fight and his career.

Figueroa knows that he will have a hungry opponent in front of him and that he will come out with everything. Vazquez has said that he will beat him but the champion dismisses his statements.

“He’s a tough fighter, but I feel like I’ll be too much for him. I know he’s talking a lot, but I don’t care about talking, I just want to get in there and fight. I feel like with my pressure, my power and zero injuries, that I’m just going to let loose. I’m gonna throw hands and I don’t think he knows what is coming to him. The body shots are gonna break him down”, said Figueroa.

The champion’s most recent fight ended in a draw against Julio Ceja, which allowed him to retain the belt. It was a tough fight in which Figueroa says the injuries took their toll but he has promised to leave a far more superior impression this time.

“I feel like I have to end this with an exclamation mark because of my last performance. I’m gonna put pressure on early and we’ll see if he can handle that. I can guarantee you one thing: Once he feels those power shots, he’s not gonna want to go toe-to-toe”, Figueroa continued.

The 23-year-old fighter has an aggressive style and exceptional stamina. His strength is to throw a lot of punches and overwhelm his opponents with an average of 100 punches per round. Figueroa talked about how he manages to throw that volume of punches: “Throw punches in bunches and let my hands go. I might wanna throw even more punches than that in this fight. It’s a Mexican style, and I feel it’s beautiful to witness someone throw a variety of punches in combinations. Execute and persecute”.

Figueroa is undefeated in 21 fights, with one draw and 15 wins by KO. For his part, the challenger Vazquez has a record of 15 wins, 1 setback, 1 draw and 8 KOs.
