American Gervonta “Tank” Davis defeated Mexican-American Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz by a knockout at 2:40 minutes of the sixth round to win the WBA Regular Lightweight Title and the Super Featherweight Super Championship, in an explosive battle on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
Davis, two-time world champion, left no doubt about his quality and projection in the PPV (Pay Per View). It was six rounds full of adrenaline and explosion. In the first three, Santa Cruz pressured and took advantage of his long arms with combinations to the face. During the fourth and fifth rounds, things changed in favor of Davis, who made a masterful attack to the stomach and used his uppercut. This last weapon gave him the victory in the sixth round after connecting the jaw of the “Earthquake”, who vanished without finishing the count, remaining several minutes on the canvas.
There is no doubt that this fight will be nominated for one of the fights of the year 2020. Santa Cruz went out to attack like a true Mexican warrior and never denied fire, while Davis won the fight because of the power of his fists, his well-known trademark.
With this demonstration, Davis left his undefeated record in 24 wins, and 23 KOs, while Santa Cruz’ record now is 37 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 19 KOs.
