Jessica McCaskill and Cecilia Braekhus are less than a month away from meeting again in a ring. With just a few weeks to go for their second fight, both fighters held a virtual press conference in which there were interesting exchanges of words between both fighters.
The fight will take place on March 13th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and the atmosphere is heated between the fighters. McCaskill defeated Braekhus last August by unanimous decision to take away her undefeated record, as well as the WBA and the WBC, IBF and WBO Welterweight titles.
The now champion talked about what she expects from the fight and how these months have been. She considers that her opponent has made excuses regarding the defeat and has not known how to handle it.
“Shame on your team for not preparing you mentally for defeat and shame on you for pretending to be the victim. You have to be the champion you say you are,” said McCaskill to Braekhus.
The 36-year-old American went further and said Braekhus, one of the best fighters in history, is not mentally focused as a fighter: “I feel the last fight was the last one of her career,” said McCaskill. “Once someone shows that weakness, shows they are not in it and alludes to retirement, that shows that they are mentally out of the game”.
Braekhus showed that she is 100% committed to regaining her belts and taking revenge for the last fight, which had a close result.
“I know I am a better fighter than Jessica, I had a bit of an off day, but I feel I did what I needed to do to retain my belts, but I was not at home. I was on her home turf and she got the belts. She says that people are hating on her because of the way she got the belts, they aren’t hating but people aren’t satisfied because that’s not the way anyone should become an undisputed champion, it should be harder than that”, said the 39-year-old Norwegian.
“Don’t start comparing resumes, I’ve beaten nine or ten World champions, so don’t start comparing. You are so negative, you talk trash about the other fighters, lighten up!”, said the “First Lady”.
McCaskill and Braekhus will clash on a massive night of action in Dallas with a triple header of World title action with Juan Francisco Estrada and Román ‘Chocolatito’ González fighting for the WBA Super Flyweight title. Also Hiroto Kyoguchi will make his debut in the USA to defend his WBA Light Flyweight title against Mexican Axel Vega.
