Billy Joe Saunders has been waiting a long time to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his big opportunity will come on May 8 in a fight for the WBA Super Middleweight Super Championship, the WBC title, and the WBO title.
Saunders is the WBO title holder and will be looking for two more belts against the toughest opponent of his career, the current pound-for-pound number one. Possessing a rather eloquent style outside the ring, he is a good stylist who is skilled and knows how to work the ring, tools that he believes will be enough to beat Canelo.
“I believe I am the only one with the footwork, knowhow, skillset, mindset and brain to unlock that door in Canelo. He’s the main man in the sport and the face of boxing. You have to give him respect, he hasn’t ducked anyone, he’s beaten good names, but nobody is unbeatable, and I believe I have got the tools to beat him if I use them correctly and the strategy works out,” assured the British fighter through a press release from MTK Global.
Billy Joe assures to be in a superior physical condition than Alvarez at this point of his career and that that will be an advantage for the fight.
“I’ve won it all, been to the Olympics, I’m unbeaten, I’ve only just turned 31, I’ve got no miles on the clock, haven’t taken any punishment – I believe he’s been in harder fights than me and has more miles, so I want to cement my legacy and beat him”, he continued.
Saunders is undefeated in 30 fights and has 14 KOs. He is a southpaw guard fighter who poses a challenge for Canelo due to his style and hopes to surprise everyone during the bout, whose venue will be defined in the coming weeks.
