Matchroom Boxing announced that the fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders on May 8th will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
The fight will be one of the most anticipated of the year and will have the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Super Championship, which Alvarez owns along with the WBC version, at stake, while Saunders will put his WBO belt on the line in this unification bout.
Although the bout had been announced since February 27th, when Canelo defeated Avni Yildirim, the details of the venue had been pending and only this Friday Texas made it official. Additionally, Eddie Hearn announced that there will be 70,000 tickets for sale, so it is expected to be a massive event with an impressive attendance to see the Mexican and the Briton in action.
The pre-sale of tickets will begin this Tuesday, March 23rd, and will last until Thursday, March 25th. The general sale of tickets for the fight will begin on Friday.
The fight will be a war of styles and Alvarez will have a great challenge against an undefeated fighter like Billy Joe Saunders, who has a southpaw guard and a great technical boxing style.
