Chris Colbert will be the protagonist of the event hosted by TGB Promotions on July 3rd. The World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Super Featherweight champion will defend his title against the veteran of a thousand battles, Yuriorkis Gamboa in a venue to be defined in the coming days.
Colbert will make the second defense of his 130 lbs. belt. The American has been growing a lot and is already emerging as one of the most talented fighters in the division.
He is 24 years old and has been champion since January 2020, when he won the belt against Panama’s Jezreel Corrales. Last December he returned to the ring to face the strong challenger, also from Panama, Jaime Arboleda, whom he beat in a boxing lesson.
The next challenge will be quite tough. Yuriorkis Gamboa has the Cuban school of boxing in his veins, he is strong, experienced and has faced several opponents of great hierarchy. He is returning to a weight that is more natural for him after fighting Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney consecutively at lightweight, and he wants to give a blow on the table against Colbert.
The champion is undefeated in 15 fights, of which he has won 6 by KO. The West Indian challenger has 30 wins, 2 losses, and 18 KOs.
