The sport, the industry, and the World Boxing Association have lost one of their most tireless collaborators, Francisco Magallanes, Vice President of Institutional Relations of one of the most emblematic liquor companies in Venezuela and Latin America and a very close friend of the President Emeritus of this organization, Gilberto Mendoza, and the current president, Gilberto Jesús Mendoza.
Engineer Magallanes was closely linked to boxing, especially with his organizational and procedural manuals during the restructuring of the World Boxing Association in 1984, apart from being a businessman, union leader, and philanthropist by nature.
He was president of the Aragua State Boxing Commission, where he was also treasurer. He was an active participant in more than 30 world conventions of the organization.
Magallanes and Mendoza Sr. developed together parallel careers in the Vollmer group of companies, in industry, sports and management, strengthening for more than 4 decades a close friendship and an unprecedented professional team in Aragua.
In boxing he was one of the closest persons to Mendoza, cooperating from his management vision and experience in the transformation processes undertaken in the 80’s by the pioneer organization.
In his last years, Mr. Magallanes remained active at the head of his functions in the Santa Teresa company, and was permanently involved in the activities of professional boxing, one of his great passions.
Today boxing loses a great man who always worked tirelessly for the welfare of the sport.
His friends, who are many, remember him as an affable person, very professional, demanding, and supportive.
His phrase “Do good to all alike” will remain engraved in the memory of his great friends.
The president of the organization, Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, on behalf of his family and the Directorate, expresses his deepest condolences for the loss of Engineer Magallanes.
Rest in Peace, Frank.
