The hard-hitting Super lightweight Batyr Akhmedov scored an important victory over the experienced Dominican Argenis Mendez by 8-round knockout the Davis-Barrios undercard in Atlanta, Georgia.
Before the fight was stopped due to an injury to Mendez’s right hand, the Uzbek was ahead on the scorecards, thanks to his pressure boxing and combinations to the face and stomach of his opponent.
Nontheless, Mendez also had some good moments in the fight, he was able to connect several hooks to Akhmedov’s head and some in the middle section, but this was not enough to undermine his opponent’s offensive.
After coming out on top in this WBA eliminator, Akhmedov is again at the doorstep of a second title shot, since in the first one he was beaten by the now former champion Mario Barrios in September 2019.
