In an explosive championship match between Mexican women, Erika “Dinamita” Cruz retained the World Boxing Association belt at 126 pounds after beating Melissa Esquivel by split decision. This was the main fight of Matchroom’s boxing card at Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center, in Jalisco, Mexico.
These two fighters already knew each other very well since those times when they shared camps in the Mexican amateur team. However, this was another story. Both professionals in search of the victory. Esquivel arrived with the desire to snatch Cruz’ belt, but despite her attempts, it wasn’t possible.
Cruz was more aggressive with blows that hit the face and body of the Sinaloa native, Esquivel, who showed her polished technique, making the match a very attractive spectacle.
The fight went on this way until the end of the ten rounds and the judges gave the victory, by split decision, to Erika Cruz, who completed her first defense of the black and gold Featherweight belt.
