The World Boxing Association (WBA) awarded the recognition of Trainer of the Year to Mexican Eddy Reynoso while British Ben Davison received the Honorable Mention.
Reynoso had another great year and highlights his work with Saul Alvarez. It was a 2021 of achieving goals and making his favorite pupil the undisputed super middleweight champion, a goal they set and fulfilled to the letter.
But it was not limited to Canelo’s feat, he was also with other fighters like Ryan Garcia, Oscar Valdez, Andy Ruiz and Frank Sanchez, who experienced great progress in 2021 under Reynoso’s guidance.
For his part, Davison also has a lot of credit for the great year he had. He helped Josh Taylor become undisputed super lightweight champion with a big win over Jose Carlos Ramirez in the United States. He guided Leigh Wood to his WBA featherweight title win over Can Xu, was in Devin Haney’s corner when he defeated Jorge Linares, as well as being with other good boxing prospects including Shabaz Masoud.
Both Reynoso and Davison had a great year and the WBA sends its thanks for making boxers better for the sport and the entertainment of the fans who love this discipline.
