The knockout of the year is one of the most interesting awards of this 2021 due to the quality of the nominees. Although it was not an easy task, Conor Benn won the recognition from the World Boxing Association (WBA) for his victory over Chris Algieri last December 18, in Liverpool.
Benn, WBA continental welterweight champion, showed his talent and power in a fight that was a real challenge for his career. He faced a veteran and former world champion like Algieri in a challenge he had to overcome to make his level clear where he defeated him with the knockout of the year.
A straight right hand in the fourth round hit Algieri’s chin and sent him to the canvas in dramatic fashion to end the fight. It was a spectacular impact that shocked everyone in attendance and resonated worldwide.
Algieri is one of the most important prospects at 147 pounds and this year he had a great evolution that he crowned with that great knockout. The WBA congratulates him for his award and hopes that his 2022 will be a year of great professional growth.
