The third part of the rivalry between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez will be a reality on March 5, at the Pechanga Arena, in San Diego, California. The Mexican will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight crown against the Nicaraguan, after each won their previous fights.
The fight will also have the WBC title at stake and is one of the most anticipated fights of 2022 after the two starred in the WBA Fight of the Year in 2021. On that occasion, Estrada won by split decision in an action-packed fight.
It was a rematch for the Mexico City native. The 31-year-old fighter had lost to Gonzalez in 2012 and had been looking for a rematch ever since, which he got nine years later.
The Central American wants to regain the WBA belts and although he comes from a loss he has all the arguments to do so as he comes from making a very even fight with the champion. In 2017 he went through a bad moment when he lost twice against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, but he came back and now he is among the best in his division.
“Gallo” comes into the fight with a record of 42 wins, 3 losses and 28 knockouts, while “Chocolatito” has a balance of 53 wins, 3 setbacks and 41 knockouts.
