The amateur boxers who took part in the WBA Future Champions have followed their path and one of them is the Puerto Rican Omar Rosario, who jumped into professional in 2020, today he remains undefeated and wants to continue to stand out in 2022.

On Saturday, January 15, he will enter the ring for his sixth professional boxing fight and his intention is to have a year full of activity that will help him continue developing and achieving his goals in this sport.

Rosario had a good amateur career and participated in the WBA Future Champions, the program of the pioneering organization that seeks to contribute to the development of amateur fighters and do its bit to improve the crisis that the discipline has experienced in this area in recent years.

Rosario will fight Raekwon Butler in New York this weekend and it will be a fight with new circumstances for him. “I’m excited and ready for this challenge. I was eager to have my first six round test because it will allow me to develop my fight plan. This way I will be able to accommodate the punches better and I can do my job,” the 23-year-old told Primera Hora newspaper.

“The three fights last year went well for me, I came out with two knockouts and the last one I won by decision. In 2022 I am determined to win the triple crown for Puerto Rico as “Prospect of the Year”. First it was Berlanga, then Xander and now it will be my turn. I don’t see it as pressure, but as a goal I want to achieve,” continued the Caguas native.

Rosario said he wants to fight as many times as possible in 2022 and that doing it so early in the year is good news for him.

“It’s important to fight in January because if everything goes well I can be active several times in the year. I’m always in the gym preparing for challenges to show that Puerto Rico is still making waves. I spent Christmas dieting, but they are sacrifices that are worth it because this is my job,” said the super lightweight prospect.
