The World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight champion, American Jamie Mitchell, will return to the ring on February 5 to face British Carly Skelly at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 36-year-old fighter was one of the revelations of the year when she defeated Shannon Courtenay last October 9, in Liverpool. Now she will have the advantage of returning to her country as champion, which is a great motivation and a reward for her efforts.
Mitchell is a tough fighter who has been able to climb the ladder quickly despite having started her professional career a little late. The Californian now has the challenge of remaining champion and it is her most important goal right now.
Skelly comes with a great desire to surprise despite her short experience. The southpaw has just five fights under her belt but has already been regional champion of other organizations, in addition to having fought for a Commonwealth title and drawing in that bout. She will be coming out of the UK for the first time, so the challenge becomes even more complicated for her but she knows she must overcome it if she wants to be world champion.
Mitchell has a record of 7 wins, no losses, 2 draws and 4 knockouts, while Skelly has a record of 4 wins and 1 draw.
