The World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight title fight between champion Roger Gutierrez and mandatory challenger, Chris Colbert, already has a date and venue. The fight will take place on February 26 at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Venezuelan Gutierrez must defend his championship against the American and the fight had been ordered months ago. After an agreement, the company TGB Promotions will organize the event with the Gutierrez – Colbert as the feature fight.
Gutierrez, 26 years old, will be defending his belt for the second time. He won it on January 2, 2021 in a dramatic bout against Rene Alvarado, while he defended it against the same opponent on August 14 of the same year.
Colbert is one of the division’s most impressive talents and earned the right to face the champion due to the fact that he held the interim title when the pioneering body’s world title reduction plan kicked off. The 25-year-old stylist has beaten good opponents like Jezreel Corrales, Jaime Arboleda and Tugstsogt Nyambayar in his most recent fights. He has good movement, great defense and impressive speed.
The champion, nicknamed “The Kid”, has a record of 26 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 20 knockouts, while the challenger, whose nickname is “Prime Time”, is undefeated with 16 wins, 6 of them by knockout.
