Yordenis Ugás has been known for his hard work and for achieving goals when many did not believe it was possible. On April 16, he will face the toughest test of his career against Errol Spence in a fight to unify the World Boxing Association (WBA), IBF and WBC titles.
The WBA Super Champion will face Spence, who holds the IBF and WBC championships. It will be a tough fight for the Cuban as he faces one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, but these are challenges that he always says yes to.
It was hard for him to break through in a complicated division like 147 pounds. He first scored significant victories against men like of Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme but his bout against Shawn Porter is well remembered.
Despite losing to Porter, he put on a great fight that many think Uguaz won that fight. Porter was a challenge in which Ugas showed what he was capable of and looked good against one of the most uncomfortable and aggressive opponents in the entire division.
He later defeated renowned opponents such as Omar Figueroa and Abel Ramos, against whom he won his first black and gold world belt. After being elevated to WBA super champion, the big moment came for him to face Manny Pacquiao.
Although he was given little chance, Ugas once again showed what he is made of and defeated the Philippine legend with a very strategic and courageous fight, which allowed him to retain his title and significantly increase his status in world boxing.
The fight with Spence looks much more complicated but the Cuban is ready to face it. He is a man of challenges and Dallas will live a great fight in April, which will give three of the four most important world titles to whoever wins.
