The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered the rematch for the super welterweight eliminator fight between the Uzbek Israil Madrimov and the French Michel Soro, who will have 30 days to negotiate the bout starting March 7.
The two men fought last December 17, in Tashkent and the official decision of the bout was a technical knockout in the ninth round in favor of Madrimov. However, Soro’s team requested a direct rematch on the grounds that the fight was wrongly stopped by a punch after the bell.
After reviewing the case carefully and consulting with the authorities present, the WBA accepted the request made by Soro’s team.
The supervisor of the bout, Jesper Jensen, sent a detailed report in which he explained what happened.
Based on the rules, specifically rule C.26, which allows the fighters to request direct rematches, the committee decided to proceed with the same.
The fighters will have the regulatory period of 30 days and if they do not reach an agreement, the fight may be called for auction.
