Yésica Bopp will step into the ring as the headliner of the XXXVII edition of the World Boxing Association’s (WBA) KO Drugs with the defense of her WBA junior flyweight title against Mexican Jessica Nery Plata this Friday at the Majestic Casino, in Panama City.

The Argentinean will defend her crown against the Mexican in the featured fight of the first card of the KO Drugs Festival this Friday, which will have an all-female presence in a very special schedule.

La “Tuti” last defended her crown on October 22 when she defeated Venezuelan Johana Zúñiga in a fight held in Barranquilla, Colombia. It was a good return to the category for Bopp, who had previously lost in a super flyweight bout, two weights above her own. 

Nery comes in with six wins in a row although he has not fought for more than a year. The Mexico City native is 27 years old, 10 years younger than the champion, and wants to use her age to her advantage. She is a tough fighter as a good Mexican and being on neutral ground also gives her confidence to seek that crown.

The evening will feature a lot of female talent and outstanding fights such as that of Colombian Monica Henao, who will fight Chantall Martinez, a Panamanian who returns to the ring with high expectations. The Argentinean Clara Lescurat will also fight in defense of her Fedelatin flyweight belt.

On Saturday there will be another boxing card at the Roberto Durán Arena that will also feature good fights in the men’s division and will have two main protagonists such as Anselmo Moreno and Jezreel Corrales, who will fight Gustavo Piña and Miguel Madueño, respectively. 

The WBA’s KO Drugs is a program whose objective is to use sports as a vehicle for improvement and to keep young people away from the wrong path, giving them boxing as a tool.
