Dmitry Bivol is one of the challenges that boxing fans have been asking Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in recent years, and now, everything is ready to fight on May 7 for the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Bivol is a strong boxer who has come a long way to be what he is today and has gone through several stages within the pioneering body to have the status he has.

In November 2015, with only 5 professional fights, he won his first WBA Intercontinental 175 lbs belt  against Brazilian Jackson Dos Santos by technical knockout.

Subsequently, in May 2016 he defeated Felix Varela by Unanimous decision to win the WBA interim championship n Moscow. He defended that belt twice in 2017 against Robert Berridge and Samuel Clarkson in good performances that helped him continue to make his name.

That same year he was elevated to regular champion of the division and his next fight as the regular champion was against Australian Trent Broadhurst who he knocked out in one round.

In 2018 he has defended his crown seven times, which have helped him become super champion of the oldest organization in the world. In those years he has left rivals like Jean Pascal, Joe Smith Jr, Isaac Chilemba or Sullivan Barrera on the way.

Against “Canelo” will be Bivol’s third fight since he became super champion and he intends to maintain his undefeated record and his status against the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today. It is a fight that looks very evenly matched and will be a huge challenge for both fighters on the night of May 7.
