Mexican Diego “Maravilla” Carmona became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro super welterweight champion by scoring a seventh round technical knockout over Panamanian Alberto “Metralleta” Mosquera on Friday night at the Foro Centenario in Coyoacan, Mexico City.
The 23-year-old prospect pulled out all his arsenal and beat the Isthmian in a great show to win the regional title and take a very important step in his professional career.
Carmona’s strength and combinations were evident from the first minute of the bout and he was able to overwhelm a veteran boxer and former interim champion to overcome a great test.
It was the 12th victory in Carmona’s career, with one loss and 10 knockouts. Mosquera dropped his record to 27 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws and 16 knockouts.
